Whew! I haven't blogged in MONTHS! Thankfully, I actually kinda "feel" like blogging for once! Ha! Let's see how long this lasts!

I HAVE to share this newborn session. Little Levi's momma had some really high hopes for his newborn session and we accomplished SO many great moments :) If there is one thing I can tell you expecting parents or soon to be Bebe' Collection clients... it's YOU MUST BE PATIENT to get these types of photos. They take time. Babies need to stop and feed, be calmed, loved, and lulled to sleep. I have NO problem snuggling a babe to get him or her to the sleepy stage it takes. A SUPER full "milk drunk" belly doesn't hurt either. Be willing to "top" your baby off!

Levi is the second born in his family and his big brother Wyatt was also a Bebe' Collection baby. I am so excited to be able to share this journey with this family for the second time around. Erin, Levi's momma is considering joining my photography team. (Hope you don't mind me making that public Erin), but as you know... I am SWAMPED and everything takes me forever to finish because there is just so much to be done. Don't get me wrong, I am BEYOND grateful and blessed, but no doubt it's time to add to my team! Can't wait to see where this journey leads Erin!

Anyway... this sweet little guy, Levi... well, I'll let the pictures do the talking :)

Santa Days 2011!

LOTS going on here at Touch of Love Photography! However, I wanted to spill some of this excitement before time creeps up on me, as it always does!

For those of you who do not know... I have officially opened a studio in downtown Tecumseh. I opened my doors for the first time this last Saturday and was able to see lots of you who came by. Studio hours are by appointment only, but things are coming along nicely. I still have some painting and "homing up the place" to do, but it's coming along :)

Santa Days 2011 is now SCHEDULED and ready to go! I have had MANY inquiries, and was able to finally nail Santa down today for official dates and times. So here goes!

Who: You and Touch of Love Photography

What: Santa Days 2011 - This is a unique Santa experience. NOTHING like mall type Santa, your child(ren) will have an opportunity to interact with Santa 1 on 1. While we capture some adorable Christmas photos, we will sneak Santa in for a surprise. In the past, it has made for some AMAZING photos and cute moments caught on camera. I guarantee a photo with Santa, so we have some ways of kinda "setting things up" so no little ones are scared. We strive to make this truly an EXPERIENCE, and not just a quick in and out sit on Santa's lap thing... think a whole production :)

Where: Touch of Love Photography Studio (134 W. Chicago St. Tecumseh, MI)

When: We will hold 2 dates this year. Saturday November 26, 2011 beginning at 1pm and Saturday, December 3, 2011 beginning at 1pm.

Cost: Package pricing will start at $50 (session fee included)

What else should you know? Some fun things to consider...

We have had clients do a pajama session. Send your kids in their PJ's, or your best Christmas attire.
Each session will be roughly 20 minutes.
Please have fun with this... bring anything you want to your session. We had nerf guns, stockings, hats, etc. ENJOY yourselves!

Christmas Cards will be available for purchase at the time of your session

Because of this being an event, and already discounted fees, Bebe' Collection and Bebe' 2 Bus clients, this event is seperate and will not be combined with your session discounts.
Online proofing WILL be available after package purchase is made, so should you choose to add on at a later time, you will be able to do so.

I always find it so amazing how things just fall into place around our lives... I knew I loved this shot as soon as I took it, and then found out that the challenge this week is "A Touch of Sun"!!! PERFECT! Things seem ironic... but for me, it's reminder of God's incredible sense of humor and LOVE :)

This little guy, Drew, has been a part of my Bebe' Collection, and he became a toddler in what seemed like a matter of 3 months, not a full year! Crazy how time flies :) Enjoy!

This time of year, things get crazy busy with photography and my head starts to spin a bit... it requires a few deep breaths and the realization that I WILL get it all done... maybe not as quickly as I would hope, but eventually.

Summer Mini Sessions - Chelsea, MI photographer

Finally have a date set for Mini Sessions!

One of my absolute favorite locations is downtown Chelsea, MI. It's so quaint, classy and casual. It offers SO many options for different photo settings that are unique and fun all at the same time. So, that's why I decided on Chelsea. Those of you coming from my area... believe me, it's worth it! Due to a busy summer around here, I will only be offering mini sessions one time this summer and this is the date. A maximum of 4 people will be allowed in each mini session. However... if you have more kiddos than is allowed, just give me a call, and we will work this into the time frame accordingly. Currently I have only 4 slots left, so you will need to act quickly. A signed contract and full payment of package is due upon booking to secure your session time.

Mini sessions are great for those who aren't in the market for a full blown session and would like just a few images for their home. These images are great for showing off your adorable family on Facebook and can even be used for Holiday cards! It's never too soon to think about that!

Each mini session will yield about 10-15 proofs and will last a maximum of 30 minutes.

I will have several openings for times, many are already taken, but I still have some time slots remaining.

Mini sessions are so much fun! Basically we shoot for 30 minutes and have a few minutes buffer just for those who take a few extra minutes to warm up! I will run these mini sessions just like a typical session. However, outfits should be limited (no clothing changes). Bring any props you would like, anything that fits you, your child, or what your vision is... the possiblities are endless!

SummerTIME! Brooklyn, MI Photographer

So many things going on in our lives around my place right now... busy busy busy, but not the too busy type. We are doing all kinds of things around here that are so much fun and so much family time. Of course my blog always takes the backseat... thank you blog for understanding, and my readers too for understanding ;). I have been trying to make some commitments over the last year and really stick with them and I thought I would take some time to tell you a little about those. I try to stay active in Facebook, but blogging is a commitment!

I can't recall if I have shared this on my blog or not so I apologize if this is repetitive... Back on November 16, 2010, I had Lap Band (Weight Loss) Surgery. I have struggled with my weight my entire life and I am embarrassed now to admit... my weight was OUT.OF.CONTROL. I had no clue then how out of hand it was. I couldn't get a grip on it myself, and after a lot of soul searching, doctor searching, and taking a huge leap of faith... the surgery was a huge success. I had zero complications, started feeling great right away and have adjusted to this new way of life seemingly. I LOVE it. Not the surgery... but for the full throttle dive I took into life since having the surgery. Today... I am down 60 lbs. and by far not done loosing. I still have a ways to go to where I would like to be, but im much closer than I was 60 lbs ago.

I listen to a radio program on Family Life Radio called Intentional Living, it airs weekdays at 4 (if you ever want to check it out), but it's really inspired me to live my life and also encouraged me to inspire my family to really live our everyday lives with Intention. I am so pleased with where this has taken us...

I have been steadily working out in the gym and now pounding pavement (since the weather broke) to get into shape. I followed a training program of some sort, but mostly just consistently kicked my own butt in the gym and on the road as well. After 6 months of INTENTIONALLY sticking with it... I participated in my first Mini Sprint Triathalon (click on link for pictures)!!! (On Sunday June 28th). I cant even begin to put words to how incredible it feels and felt that day to FINISH what I set out to do. I kept trying to think of how to describe the feeling of the finish, and the only thing I can compare it to... is giving birth to one of my kids. WEIRD right?! I guess it's that post adrenaline rush, the endurance, the perservence... No, I didn't get a beautiful child in the end, but I did get a whole boatload of self esteem, a stronger mind and body (I had no clue were in there), and proud cheers from family and friends which brought me so much joy. These are the kinds of things I want my kids to see me accomplishing in life. I do it for them as well as myself.

I have been doing things with the kids too since school has been out. We have been to the Toledo Zoo, the beach numerous times, play dates with friends, visits to grandparents, hanging out at the lake, visits with out of town friends, 5 generation pictures with my family, family pictures, doctors appointments with Kenedey for her broken thumb :), bonfires in our backyard, a trip to Frankenmuth (that was a blast... errr not!) and a lot of relaxing in the backyard with my Unlimited by Jillian Michaels book! Today, we topped it off with a trip to Domino Farms in Ann Arbor (insert big fat BORING here), and then went to Calder Dairy Farm.

So anyway... just wanted to update you to let you know I am still here... still doing lots of photo shoots, and throughly enjoying LIFE and SUMMER!! Hope you are as well!

Steve & Kelly Mizerik ~ MARRIED!! Jackson, Michigan Wedding Photographer

When he was little, Steve looked to his sister older Lindsay before he would talk to strangers. Often times, she would tell them, "well he won't talk to you, but I can tell him what you are saying". Definitely a protective big sister and a little brother who relied on her.

During her teen working years, Kelly spent EVERY.SINGLE.SATURDAY. morning cleaning fans at Lake Columbia's Beach Bar where her manager was on top of the "list of duties"! That manager happened to be Lindsay (Steve's big sis). :) After getting to know Kelly well, Lindsay decided she had done her big sis job of evaluating and she told Steve, "you are really going to like Kelly, she's a really great girl"! Well Lindsay... GOOD WORK! These two are absolutely perfect for each other!

Descriptive words cannot even touch the amount of joy, fun, and love surrounding this wedding day! June 4, 2011 couldn't come soon enough when I first talked with Kelly about her big day. We had an AMAZING e-session last year, so I knew Kelly and Steve would be the perfect fit with my shooting style. I have known Kelly since she was about 8ish? So this day was so special to me :)

Steve and Kelly have an absolutely undeniable connection to each other. No doubt are they incredibly close friends, but more importantly, they have the most unique respect and admiration for each other. I feel like it's not something you see in young couple's all the time and I think that's what sets them apart and will sustain them through the years to come. It's AMAZING to be a part of their love and friends and family.

The mood of the day was so relaxed. The perfect atmosphere where you just want to let loose and have a great time. Well I can say... a GREAT time it was. I fully expected either Steve or Kelly to be a little bit nervous, but when I was around them individually, I didn't sense any nerves... excitement, YES... but not nervousness. However... the I picked up on all kinds of emotions once I got around Kelly's dad, Bud! Bud is a super special guy and he and Kelly have the kind of father daughter relationship many girls can only dream of. Kelly gave her dad a hankerchief that had the words, "Dad, you will always have a special place in my heart" embroidered into it. I saw him pull the hankie out a few times throughout the day to show it off. :) Heartwarming.

Their ceremony was beautiful and Steve was ALL smiles as Kelly walked down the aisle. I watched him bust up laughing when Lindsay (big sis) came down the aisle in tears! Oh how the times have changed!

After the ceremony, we headed downtown Jackson for photos. This bridal party was up for ANYTHING! I was pleasantly surprised when they wanted to escape the blazing hot day and stop inside the Night Light bar to sit down and have some cheese steak... I was all, "oh... okay!" LOL definitely a first! Somehow, while inside the bar... groomsmen Dave worked it with the bartenders and got permission for us to get Kelly on top of the bar. Can you say ROCKSTAR!!! Only you Kel!!! Mermaid fit dress and all, you rocked it!

As I walked around the reception that night, I kept looking for a paper and pen because there were so many thoughts swirling through my head about memories from the day and I didn't want to forget a single moment. I even came home that evening and wrote a list!!! (something I have never done)!

The venue for the reception was at Daryl's downtow n in Jackson, MI. The Rose Room had such a great ambiance and set the mood for such a great night. One of my favorite moments during the toast was when Kelly's Dad was giving a speech, and he said something to the effect that Kelly always takes care of things and now she will take care of Steve... HILARIOUS when Steve's mom stood up and gave her own little standing ovation!!! haha!

At one point during the evening, I asked Steve if he could get Kelly in a chair and have all the guys lift her for a little Hora. Two times during the day, Steve became my personal hero. First when he walked out of the ceremony and first thing he said was, "these pictures out here are going to be awesome, the light is PERFECT!!!" Steve, when you are ready to pick up a camera, let me know ;) Then again... with the hero thing, when he said, "you just get ready, I got this" ;) Good work my man! He surely got it done!

Kelly & Steve, it was truly an honor and pleasure to be part of your day. I can't wait to see what the future has in store for you all because I know... whatever it is, if it's anything like all the times I have had with you... it's going to be a FUN time! I love you both dearly and look forward to watching your marriage grow and thrive. Hugs to you both!

Now hurry home from your honeymoon, because I miss you!

Chelsea, MI - Wedding Photographer

April & Nathan ~ MARRIED!!!

I am so excited about weddings this year!! My schedule is pretty light which is in some ways nice because I can just sort of take my time with edits and the burn out never sets in. I am going to enjoy!

April and Nathan had a very intimate ceremony with only their immediate family (around 24 people) at The Teacup Chapel. It was very sweet and felt so cozy among their families.

From what I have learned about this adorable couple, Nathan typically presents himself to new friends as someone who is pretty laid back and a bit on the quiet side....

Does this look like someone who fits that description?
Ya, it doesn't to me either ;) Nathan and April were so much fun to photograph. I was a tad nervous because I had never had the opportunity to meet Nathan before the big day, so I was a bit unsure how he would feel about so many pictures. *sidenote: I get it when guys don't really love the photo part of the wedding day :) I prefer the fun and my side of the camera too!

Nathan however... he was a complete trooper and so much fun! April and Nathan have such a sweet relationship. A little background... April has her daughter, Faith (who I kept calling Hope) LOL im a dork! Then Nathan, his little guy is Aiden. I could go on and on about these two kids, and what an amazing job their parents are doing with blending their families.
Faith is a old soul to say the least! Having a conversation with her felt like I was chatting with a 20 yr old. She absolutely idolizes both Nathan and her mom, and had such a sweet disposition about their family finally coming together. Such a refreshing perspective.

One of my most favorite moments of the day was when April gave Aiden a pocket watch that had a train on it. The boy LOVES trains!! He played with her gift to him all day and showed it to most everyone at the reception. When she spoke to Aiden during the ceremony one thing she said really stood out to me... it was something along the lines of how she and Faith hoped to continue their special friendship with him in the years to come.... cue tears. I just thought it was really neat to approach it that way. Nathan also spoke to Faith during the ceremony and I promise you, there was not a DRY eye in the house.

Another super emotional part of the day was when April's dad got to see her for the first time before walking her down the aisle. She is his only child, and it was such a privilidge to be part of watching their moment together. I could just see the pride, joy, and hope for the future all mesh in at that moment.
Their reception was at the Comfort Inn reception hall in Chelsea, Michigan. I had never been to a reception there, it was a great venue and looked great with all the extra touches April added to the decor!

April and Nathan, thank you so much for having me as part of your big day. It was such a beautiful wedding and I know you will have many beautiful years together.

Lifestyle Session #1

Last month I mentioned I was going to be striving to do some lifestyle photography with my clients to keep things fresh, fun, and authenitcally YOU!

I had a WONDERFUL time with my first session. The kids were all about playing and showing me their stuff and just enjoying their life.

I figured it would be fun to throw together a video to show, rather than a bunch of pictures here on the blog... so here it is!

I have LOTS of ideas running through my brain of lifestyle session and am shooting another tomorrow (can't wait McKenna ;) so if you are interested in a unique, fun and super easy going session with your family... don't hesitate!

Another one of my bebe' collection clients graduates :(

It makes me happy and sad all at the same time! Lucky for me... Fletcher will be sticking around and going onto the next level of photo shoots, Bebe' 2 Bus.

It has been an absolute pleasure watching this adorable teeny tiny baby go from so new and sweet to so big and CUTE! He has the most beautiful eyes and an adorable personality!

How fun are these Valentines Cards? I always like to do something a little bit different for my kids to give their friends for Valentines Day, so when I saw these, I knew this was a must have!

Cards will be printed as 4.5x5 flat front and back style card. Cards are $25 and come in sets of 25.

Lifestyle Photography

While my holiday season was wonderful with my kiddos and we are soooo blessed. I kinda had a hard holiday season. I REALLY missed my mom and immediate family who live in Florida. I missed the feeling of baking cookies together, setting around and just being TOGETHER at my moms house with the tree in the other room and kids driving us crazy! Although it was kind of a tough time... it was also something that inspired me.

I wanted to take a minute to throw some ideas and goals out there that I have for 2011. I am calling it lifestyle photography... because quite frankly, I can't think of anything better to describe it.

I really want my photography to take a small turn just to keep things fresh, fun and authentically YOU.

So.... here's my vision and where I want to see things head. Imagine some of the things your kids do that just embody exactly who they are right now, at this point in time. Something you don't want to forget. I know for me... I want to remember things like my teenage daughter up in her room surrounded by all of her technology stuff... like texting, her lap top, ipod, all the things that are today... HER. As for my son... I want to remember him playing his Nintendo DS, playing with trio blocks, his excited look when we tell him he gets to go to Target (atta boy) and even him sleeping in his bed with the UGLY Cars comforter that he LOVES. Those are the types of things I want to try to photograph this year. To help you STOP and remember those memories that are making your kids become them. Ultimately, I want a photo of my kids laying on Kenedey's bed on their bellies reading a book TOGETHER and laughing TOGETHER.

I have a couple of sessions scheduled in the coming weeks for specifically this. One includes a little boy and his big sister and we are going to do a full out crazy bubble bath session, dress up with gaudy jewelry, and fun toys with the little guy! I CANNOT wait! I will be sure to post some some samples! Consider scheduling a session for something that your family does TOGETHER.

Casting Call 2011

I am ready to bring in 2011 with a BANG! We are kicking off the 365 days of baby love calendar campaign!

Do you have, or know someone who has a baby or small child?

I am looking to cast at least 12 children for a calendar I am putting together. Once complete, the calendar will represent Touch of Love Photography for the 2011 year. Your childs photo will be chosen by me to be printed into my yearly calendar!

Who: I am looking for newborns, infants, and babies up to age 12 months
What: 12 babies to be in my 2011 calendar I am creating. I am looking for at least 1 baby for each month/age (1 mo., 2 mo. 3 mo. etc). I will also use a few ages 2, 3, and 4 year olds.
When: Session MUST take place before Jan. 14, 2011, so the calendar production can be done QUICKLY!
Why: To create a neat keepsake and to adorn desks, purses, offices, and homes all over the place and new faces for 2011 marketing :-)
How: Just contact me to schedule your session. Sessions can be held in my home, or I will come to you if you live within a 20 mile radius.

What's in it for you? Each child chosen to represent a specific month, will receive a free session and a free 8x10 print of your choice and a final 5x7 printed calendar. If your child is chosen for the cover image, you will recieve your choice of a new 2011 featured product! Stay tuned those will be released this week. I promise they are PERFECT for these types of session and you will be blown away by how fun the choices are.

Additional calendars will be available for purchase.

All proofs will be available online for you to view after session is complete. All parents must sign a release allowing your childs photo to be used for marketing purposes.

I have teamed up with Carly @ Sticky Bellies (be sure to visit her site) and will be using sticky bellies in each age group photo shoot.

However... I know SO many of you have creative ideas and things you want to see your kids wearing or playing in and the like... bring all those fun ideas and novelties, props or whatever you have in that brain!

Matt & Andrea Palmer... MARRIED!

On Oct. 16, 2010 this adorable couple had one of the most beautiful warm fall wedding days EVER.

I got the chance to get to know Matt & Andrea during their son Landon's first year of Bebe' Collection. I will never forget them bringing Landon to my house when we was all of about 12 days old... he had crazy adorable mohawk baby hair do, and just the sweetest parents. I instantly knew they would be a family I was excited to watch grow. Most of you who have been around "know" little Landon from the blog... if you don't all I usually have to say is the crazy hair baby! Love that guy!

Andrea and Matt's big day started out in the BEAUTIFUL St. Joseph Catholic Church. They each wrote letters to each other that were read by the priest during the ceremony. The letters were so touching that as I photographed from the balcony I kept having to dry my tears. Yep I almost always cry during touching moments at weddings... I am a SAP!

Before the ceremony we got to have some fun with little Landon who has NO problem stealing the show just by being him.

Matt & Andrea both come from families who are all about family. Did that make sense? I don't know how to explain it other than both sides are very family oriented. All are very close knit and it is such a nice feeling of being in their little family cocoon. I love when families are so tightly knit.

Andrea and Matt had a GIGANTIC party bus that honestly it's size gave my modest home a run for it's money! I really still have no clue how that bus made turns... seriously larger than a semi!

We went to the beautiful Trestle Park in Adrian for some group shots. Andrea and Matt are both come across as slightly quiet people, but they held nothing back for their photos and turned up the heat for those intimate moments in photos. Could they be any more adorable together?? I am pretty sure it doesn't get better than this!

At the reception the speeches were beautiful and a true reflection of how special Matt and Andrea are ot everyone who knows them. Matt's sister wrote a great speech, but... her tears got the best of her ;-) Luckly one of the groomsmen stepped in and read the pre written speech. Ryan, Matt's nephew who is about 8 yrs old, even gave his own little speech about how much he loves his Uncle Matt.

Little Landon did all kinds of dancing and smiling for my camera. One of the most touching moments of the evening was when they played the song "Let them be litte" and Matt and Andrea danced with Landon and invited their guests with kids to all slow dance together... once again... not a dry eye. So so touching. I would I could have bottled that emotion and kept it for them to remember as Landon grows... I guess the good thing is, the pictures tell the emotion of how special those moments were.

Matt and Andrea, it was TRULY an honor and pleasure to watch you and your family on this part of your life journey. You two are such an inspiration of love and family. I can't thank you enough for allowing me to capture your lives!

I have NEVER gone over a few weeks without blogging and here I find myself where it has been 2 months!!! NOT good :-( I had an insanely busy fall season and something had to give for me to be able to meet deadlines from weddings and session work. Well... I wasn't willing to compromise more family time, so blogging it was. Now things are definitely heading back to semi-normal (whatever that is) so I am going to get right back to it!!!

I really want to get the Cole Palmer wedding I shot on 10/16/2010 blogged, so that will be first up.

But first, I wanted to let you all in on a little of what's been going on around here that made things seem so busy. On 11/16/2010... I underwent a HUGE lifestyle choice/surgery. I had lap band (bariatric) surgery. This was something I had been planning for about a year, but finally got insurance clearance, the mindset, and everything else in place to be able to do it. So far... I am THRILLED that I did it. A month out, I am down about 15 lbs and doing very well. I feel great and my energy level is the best it has been in a long time :-) I am exercising regularly and working towards some of my goals. Biggest one at this point is to be able to run a mile... to all you runners, I know it's not much of a goal in that respect, but I absolutely dispise running!! I will let you know when I hit that goal!

My husband also underwent bariatric surgery on 12.1.10. He had full gastric bypass and so that tied up some of my time caring for him and keeping things going around the home.

We had a nice Christmas season and I have really enjoyed a few weeks off. I have been planning some fun upcoming things as well as booking lots of weddings for the 2011 season. I am really looking forward to another great year!

Thank you for understanding my need to step away from blogging. I am back... for now! We will see how well I can fit this back into the balance we all seem to struggle to find! If you are not already, be sure to become a friend of mine on facebook. I am good at keeping sneak peeks going there!

Basically, you can make your card as complex as you want (as seen here) or just a simple one sided photo card (you would just choose one of the templates above and that would be the front side of your card.

Mike & Tiffany MARRIED!!! - Key Largo, Florida (destination photographer)

I cannot believe it has been nearly a month since I last posted. I have always tried to keep my blog a BIG priority in my business, and it definitely still is... but I have been so busy and caught up in getting everything accomplished that it has had to take a back seat for a minute. I am still not caught up, and full fledged blogging isn't back quite yet, but with a little cheering on, I am sure I can put it back into my routine very soon. :-) Thank you to all of my amazing readers for sticking around!

Anyway... let's get to the REAL good stuff!

First let me just say... this was an AMAZING opportunity and probably a once in a lifetime opportunity. I am so so blessed to have been part of a spectacular day filled with love, genuine people, and FUN! Mike and Tiffany both have roots back here in good ol' Michigan, but their lives have taken them out to Arizona where they have been building a great life and planning their big day! Tiffany's dad lives in Key Largo, and Tiffany spent a lot of time there growing up. What better place for a wedding?!

Last year, while Tiffany and Mike were on a trip out of the country... while they were at the Great Wall of China, Mike popped the big question! Now how many of you can say you got engaged at the Great Wall of China? Let also who can even say they have visited it?!When Tiffany and I chatted about her big day, one thing that she really wanted to be sure I would capture was the photo journalistic parts to the wedding day. I knew it wouldn't be tough because I know enough about Tiffany to know that it would all be very well planned!

Months and months before the wedding, I got lots of emails and pictures all directing me what types of things Tiffany wanted to see in her wedding photos, right along with lots of chats about location and timing of everything for the big day. Then.... about a month before the wedding, the spreadsheets started pouring it! LOL Seriously, I laugh because probably most photographers would wonder what kind of bridezilla they are dealing with, but I didn't. I do really well when I have goal and expectations in mind and it worked for us! So upcoming brides... now you have Tiffany's spreadsheets to live up to ;-) My point is, I REALLY like being involved in the planning of the weddings I shoot. Not so that I have control or anything, but because it makes me feel invested in your day and I have a good idea of you expect things to play out after seeing your ideas and visions for your day.

I arrived in Key Largo the morning of the wedding and my AWESOME second shooter Lindsey and I took a look around the location and then we were off to meet up with the wedding party at the salon. I had not seen Tiffany or anyone for that matter in about 13 years, so it was all pretty neat for me, but watching them all be so excited for Mike and Tiffany's big day was a ton of fun and the energy made it that much more exciting!

Tiffany got ready in the Penthouse at the Key Largo Marriott and we photographed her doing her makeup in front of the mirror, complete with spreadsheets on the best ways to apply certain things ;-) It was genius if you ask me!
Tiffany's mom and step mom along with the wedding party arrived to help her get into her dress and the moment she stepped into it, it was MAGICAL! Tears started falling, hugs and laughter ensued and the beauty of the day all started to become so real!Once we were all set to go, her dad came in for his first look at his first daughter to make the big step towards marriage. I really enjoyed watching Tiffany and her dad together. They have such a fun relationship. I quickly learned where Tiffany learned to be so quick witted! They have the healthiest divided and blended families I have ever seen. It's the best feeling in the world to watch people with a common goal come together in times like weddings and watch every one's dreams become a reality. For me, it's really what part of weddings are all about (of course next to the vows) ;-)

I can't say it enough... SUCH a beautiful family.
After finishing up with the girls, I headed over to see Mike and the guys. Mike had mentioned he had a surprise for Tiffany which she had no clue about. He added a wedding band to Tiffany's wedding ring brought on the full on bling!

What do you do when the groom tries to run away from the wedding? Just beat him with the bat he gave you as a gift of course!The ceremony took place on the property of the Marriott in Key Largo just before sun set. The ceremony was beautiful, but I think we all got a good laugh when Tiffany said she would take Mike to be her wife! LOL It wasn't her fault though, she was just repeating what the official was saying!

The best way to sum up Mike and Tiffany, is they compliment each other just perfectly. Tiffany is definitely someone most of us look up to... She is driven, compassionate, and genuine and someone not just anyone could keep up with. Mike is definitely the perfect compliment to her life and she is also to his. Mike adds balance, adventure, fun and lots of love into Tiffany's life, and together, I have a feeling it will just keep getting better! I wish you two so much happiness and lots of love and life TOGETHER. I know I have already said it a few times, but I need you to know how utterly blessed I am to have you as a part of my professional life. You gave me an opportunity I always dreamed of and therefore have a big part in helping me live out my dreams through photography and I THANK YOU for allowing me to be part of one of the biggest days of your lives. I look forward to watching what the future holds for you. Lots of love to you both!

Kelly & Steve Engaged! - Chelsea, MI Photographer

Kelly and Steve's story started a get together with some friends. They chatted that evening and had some drinks.... Steve showed some interest in Kelly and somehow the conversation turned to... let's go for a run together in the morning. Kelly was certain Steve wouldn't meet her in the morning at 10:30 after a late night.... she was right!

Around 11:30 or 12, Kelly got a phone call from a frantic and apologetic Steve. Many I am SO sorry's later they met for that run. If you know Kelly... you know she's tough and doesn't put up with much crap! So... her punishment for him for being late and making her feel like he wasn't serious about the promised meeting time... she made him run 5... Yes FIVE miles with her! According to Steve, he had never run more than a mile and a half at a time and "she dragged his butt the entire way"!

Good news is... lucky for Kelly, Steve survived the run and obviously a few more dates! These two compliment each other so perfectly. They have so much fun together, don't take life too serious, and truly just enjoy each others company.

This session taught me a lesson... Never ask a "bride to be" to jump off from a 3 foot wall, because they REALLY want these great photos and will put themselves in danger if I ask them to.

I asked them to jump and Kelly had her shoes off... pretty sure she fractured her heel :-( There's a first time for everything. Lesson learned!!!

I am so excited for their big day next year! Let's get to the wedding date asap... that way, I will know winter is OVER!

I have tried to find the words to share how much this session meant to me as both a photographer and just a mom/friend/person in general. The biggest pride I take in my business, definitely has to be the relationships and connection I make with lots of clients. I don't take it lightly that you are asking me to capture a moment in time of the people you love. This session was no different, however... it was definitely bittersweet.

From the photos, you will see a BEAUTIFUL baby girl (Brooklyn) and her sister Taylor, whos eyes sparkle so... that it gives me chills. Taylor has the sweetest demeanor just like her momma. And little Brooklyn, is such a little peanut! She weighs in at roughly 7.5 lbs at 3.5 months old. You might notice she has a scar on her chest. To say this amazing family has endured a lot over the past few months would be the understatement of the year.

About 6 months ago a past client of mine, Jennifer, contacted me to purchase a gift certificate for her friend who was expecting twins. I was head over heels with excitement to do those photos. 3.5 months ago, Cathy delivered two beautiful little girls, Makinsey and Brooklyn. The twins were hospitalized but were doing well. After about a week, they found that both girls were having some heart problems and both were transferred to a larger hospital for more care. Both girls were in the NICU and later underwent heart surgery. My heart ached each time I saw Cathy (moms) facebook status updates... to see those tiny girls enduring so much was heart wrenching... but it must be said, their parents (Cathy and Dan) held on tight and were along for the ride with heads held high. Their spirits and determination were amazing to say the least. The girls had lots of ups and downs with the surgery and care over those months.

On August 8th, Sweet baby Makinsey got her wings and now looks over her beautiful family from heaven. In the words of her mommy, she is now at peace. I know it goes without saying, but she is so missed by everyone. Here she is, photo taken by mommy the week she was born.
Now you might understand why I count this family as some of my heros. Finally, after a LONG wait, I got the opportunity to meet Dan, Cathy, Taylor and baby Brooklyn! Oh my goodness... what a strong family. Cathy had the wonderful idea of including Makinsey in her twin sisters photos. We tried to get creative with ideas. Definitely bittersweet because the fact that Brooklyn has come SO far deserves to be documented and praised. I kept thinking as I was looking through my photos, the amount of physical endurance and life changes she has been through in her short little life is more than most of us adults can say... yet she still smiled at me many times through her session! Brooklyn, your life is such a symbol of hope and love. I am sure you will do big things. It's already evident what a sweet spirit you have and I know you will carry your sisters memory with you forever with the help of your beautiful family. The photo of Brooklyn above clinging to the teddy bear... that bear belongs to Makinsey. Makinsey, we all miss you so much, but your legacy will not be forgotten. I am sure your sisters will need you to look over them throughout the years... with a spirit of determination that Brooklyn has... it might get her into trouble someday! ;-)

To the Wimple family... I want you to know what an honor it has been meeting you all. Thank you for sharing your girls with me! I look forward to watching Brooklyn grow! She's amazing.

Chase Alexander - Jackson, MI newborn photographer

Oh goodness! This was a GREAT newborn shoot! Newborn sessions can take a long time and this one did but it wasn't because the baby wasn't cooperative! He was an absolute gem!

After I spent the first 20 minutes just snuggling with this little ball of snuggles, we started his session with some classic stuff and curly newborn goodness, but near the end, his daddy decided to pull out all the stops and Christian (daddy) you were THE BEST! Chase's daddy is really into... ummm what do you call it... like street car racing... you know making your street car the baddest... ya, that stuff, so he pulled out all the fun stuff and we laid Chase on that roller thing! Too cute...

The motorcycle picture made me an absolute wreck! This is baby Chase's mom's motorcycle and I absolutely LOVE this shot! He looks so happy laying there doesnt he?! What you can't see, is his dad is behind him holding onto him with a promise to me and his momma that he wouldn't let go ;-)

Thank you Christian and Kelsey for a WONDERFUL session. You two are going make amazing parents, Chase is a lucky little guy!!! Anytime Chase needs a good snuggle in, just give me a call!

Oh that Morgan - Machester, MI Photographer

Ahhh... it's so hard for me to even put down in words how amazing this sweet girl is. Her momma is one of my brides from last year (see the gorgeous bride on the blog header above). They used to live in Kansas City but lucky for us, they have moved back this way!!! I was so excited to do Morgan's pictures so when I got texts from her mom the week prior that included photos of Morgan in her boots and adorable cowboy hat, needless to say... I was GEEKED!

Morgan is so much like her mom in the sense that... you put them in front of the camera, it's the most natural thing in the world. A photographer's dream really.

This was my first session to include a horse, so I would be lying if I said I wasn't at all nervous. I have spent my fair share of hours in the barn with my daughter Kenedey, when she is taking riding lessons, so it wasn't the horse that bothered me... the nerves, for me, were more about how would I capture a beautiful animal and little girl all in the same frame ;-)

Turns out it was very natural and just felt like a chance to be outside with 2 of my favorite girls and a horse named Justin! We had to keep him from eating grass and since Ginger already sold me out on facebook I would be a fool not to share my true need for comfort when I tell you ... I was a total genius when I wore FLIP FLOPS to the session. Yes, I said Flip Flops... who does that to a barn session?! Apparently me!

Anyway... thank you so much girls for another wonderful session. You two are total rockstars in my world and I am so lucky to be able to say we started our relationship as business and now I count you as friends! Hugs!

Fun times! - Toledo, OH family photographer

You might recognize these beauties from last year. I can't tell you how exciting it is for me to get to have clients come back. The girls have grown so much. They two girls are not sisters. They are cousins. Their moms, are part of a set of quad quadruplets! Now you have to admit that's pretty cool. The girls are so funny with each other and it sometimes seems like they are twins rather than cousins, they just have that unspoken language between them, yet their personalities could not be more different.

This is Ellie. In front of the camera, she is free spirited, funny, and FULL of energy! She has no problems posing for the camera ;-) This is her with her mommy Julia.And of course the two of them together. Love them!

This is Lizzie. In front of the camera, she is soft spoken, sweet spirited, and such a happy girl.! She is so natural when she poses herself, and it definitely came across to the camera.

This time, the girls brought their cousins along with them! The oldest is definitely on the verge of being SO over family pictures, which I completely understand, but he held on and did it for him mom ;-)
The whole family are all University of Michigan fans, so after our time at the Law Quad, we headed over to the stadium. It worked out well for a masculine and fun feel for the guys!

The adorable little family has so much personality! It was so much fun hanging out with them last week for their session. Little Olivia's curls and sparkly brown eyes are so gorgeous that it just draws you to her in an instant. And see my little man Aiden? Oh ya, what do you know about Spiderman and web blasters? Most of those smiles are a direct result of "throwing" webs at each other for an hour! It's a treat for me when I get to do sessions that include kids the same age as my own. Aiden and my little Carson are 1 day apart we figured out, which is just too cool because I have never met anyone with the same date of birth, let alone even remotely close! It's so simple for me to relate when it's an age and stage I am used to, so truly... it was a BLAST! literally! ;-)

Housekeeping...

Every time I hear the word Housekeeping, I think of an Adam Sandler movie... can't pinpoint at this moment exactly which movie, but it's his voice in a silly way and he sounds like a girl... "housekeeping" first one to leave a comment and tell me which movie that is, wins a free 8x10!

Anyway... why am I talking about housekeeping? I have been doing some internal housekeeping here at Touch of Love Photography. Ya, I have been washing a lot of backdrops and blankets after newborn sessions, but not THAT kind of housekeeping! The kind of housekeeping that keeps things fresh and new around here!
I am working on a new blog header, a REAL website, and a new tag line! I have had my tagline for quite sometime, but really haven't found the right place to incorporate it to my business. I feel like I am at a place in my photography where it's really time to solidify some of those things... so I figured it's time to share what's coming with all of you... my fave's, my clients!

Let's talk about the website first. My friend Tim Schoch is brilliant, and so talented when it comes to websites. He contacted me a few weeks ago and wondered if I was interested in a website. I'm a BIG believer in, "why fix something when it's broke?" I was all.... "um no, I don't need a website, and if you REALLY think I need one, you need to sell me". I mean my blog has done a fabulous job of "working for me" thus far in my business and wow, all the things we have been through... me and this blog have certainly weathered the seasons of life. I look back and can't believe how far things have come and where things are going... so much growth, so much MORE to grow. So, my point... after talking further with Tim, it's time to grow. I fully intend to stay with my blog and share new favorites, stories, inspirations and more... but I need a dedicated site for potential clients and what we will call "a safe place to land" on the internet! My new website address will be: www.touchoflovephotography.com (It's currently under (insert BIG TIME) construction right now, but just know that it's coming and when it's time for the big launch... I will be sure to let you know!

Next up: (I feel like this is some sort of office meeting) LOL :-)
MY TAGLINE! This part is really fun for me. I decided about a year ago my tag line needed to come in somewhere and finally I found exactly how it fits me and my business. So... the tagline is this: Be Silly. Play Happy. Love Big.

Why did I choose those? GREAT question! Here's how I feel like it fits at this point in my life/business. Every time I walk into a session I am there to capture something that embodies exactly who my clients are at that particular moment in time. When I walk away, my favorite pictures are ALWAYS the ones where I can really feel the story unfold of how the session went and the love between whoever it is I am photographing. Silliness, Happiness, and Love bring me SO much joy.... it's truly an emotional thing for me in my work and I really feel like it is the heart of my heart in my art. So... every session I have done over the last month I have worked HARD to really get my clients to feel those things. Oddly enough, I have felt more fulfilled and inspired each time when I am able to accomplish those 3 things. So... anyway, that's the deal and that's why! Because each of you mean the world to me, I felt it was only fair to share with you why and how and all that good stuff. As always, I need you to know that I adore each one of you and really appreciate you sharing your families and friends with me. It's truly an honor every time I get to capture all.of.you.!!!!

Newborn info!

I picked up this info from another newborn photographer blog, and wanted to share it with all you new parents. I added a few of my own notes too :-)

If there is one thing that I love, it’s photographing newborns. A newborn photography session is so challenging, but it’s so amazing to be a part of a baby’s life when they are just days old. There are so many factors that have to come together for the session to go smoothly… and if there’s one thing a photographer must have, it’s patience. A session can go quick and be done in an hour, or it may take 3 hours or longer, but regardless it’s important for everyone involved to stay patient – the end result is totally worth it.

There is lots of preparation I go through to get ready for a newborn session. From looking for unique props to cleaning all my equipment and loading up my car, I can assure you that your session isn’t viewed as “another session” just like your baby isn’t “just another newborn”. I prepare differently for each session and I hope it shows.

In addition to doing everything I can in my power to make the parents and baby as comfortable as possible, there are some things that parents can do before the session to get things going on the right path. – so here’s my post on the 13 tips for your newborn photography session.

Newborn portraits are unique in that they can’t be scheduled months out, but you can line up a photographer months out who will build time into their calendar around your due date for your session. If you are scheduling your birth, let your photographer know that as soon as possible.
Call your photographer soon after you deliver so you can arrange a time for the session. Ideally the session should take place within 5-10 days after birth, and no longer than 2 weeks after.
The session will take place at your home – do not worry about the state of your house. You just had a baby. I do not care if dishes are piled up the sink and clothes baskets runneth over. I have a job to do, and I’m not there to care about how clean your house is and let's just keep it real.... you haven't seen mine ;-)
Loosen the the baby’s diaper about 30 minutes before the session. This allows time for the diaper’s imprint marks to disappear.
Have your house warm. Ideally, you’ll want the thermostat set around 80-85. For the adults it will be hot, but the baby will be toasty and happy. (In the winter, I often carry a portable heater and it's perfect for keeping them warm)
Collect any items you want used in the session beforehand – family heirlooms, toys, monogrammed blankets, etc. I’ll go through these with you to determine what will look best in the pictures.
If you’d like pictures taken of the baby in the nursery, be sure all the curtains and shades are open to let in lots of natural light. No need to clean, but just try and make sure the clutter has found its way to a closet.
Decide if you’d like pictures taken with your baby, or if you want pictures of only the baby.
Make sure the baby has a full belly before I arrive. Aren’t we all happier with a full belly?
After the baby is full, make sure they are burped really good. Gas can take a sleepy, happy baby to an uncomfortable and irritable one in seconds.
A mother’s smell is so recognizable (and sometimes distracting) to a baby, that it may be necessary for the mom to leave the room for portions of the session. This is not meant to hurt your feelings, but only to allow me to get the baby thinking sweet sleepy dreams, instead of hungry “where’s my milk?” dreams.
Be patient. If the baby gets fussy or alert, don’t stress out. A baby can sense your anxiety and we want to keep the environment as mellow as possible. We will try and get the baby comfortable again, but if that just doesn’t seem possible, we’ll take a break or we’ll work with what he’s giving us. Sometimes the best pictures are ones when the baby isn’t doing what we want.
Be assured that if there is ever a point where you’re uncomfortable with the poses, simply let me know. I only want to do poses and shots that you are comfortable with.
- Unless the baby sleeps very good through the nights do not schedule the shoot in the early morning.
- If you breast feed I have the utmost respect for you two getting the hang of things and your commitment to your baby. If your baby needs to nurse... do it! Often times, "topping them off" lulls them to sleepy land and makes us all happy!
- A majority of the pictures will work best if the baby is asleep so anything you can do in advance to encourage this is recommended. I assumed he should be awake and alert which probably made your job a lot harder.

I hope this helps ease some of your anxiety for your newborn session. I know it's exciting, new and sometimes you feel a tremendous amount of pressure when inviting a "stranger"/me into your home. Please take it to heart that this is something I do all the time and I am probably one of the most patient people in the world especially with newborns. If you feel tense... it's likely your baby, and I will as well.

I have always said I have a sixth sense and that sense is I can feel sometimes what others are feeling. So.... relax, take a deep breath, grab a warm cup of coffee or tea and just ENJOY your time during your newborn session!

This is my new pettiskirt. LOVE it, so I enlisted the model Miss Grace to give it a whirl for me. It was like magic the moment she slipped it over her waist! CUTEST thing in the world to watch her run, jump, pose, and pout in the skirt! Hope to have many more of these sessions!

I have to start this off with this session was SO humid outside. I am really hoping this is the last day of hot humid summer sessions. I am not complaining about the heat... just the thickness in the air... it makes it so kids get sweaty and their hair sticks to their faces and ya im just done with the humidity! Thankyouverymuch! ;-)

These types of sessions where the kids truly get to be kids are my absolute favorite. I shot over 400 frames for this session and proofed it down to about 100, but the running, jumping, sillyness, and fun never gets old! It's precisely what I LOVE about my job.

Emily was such a great subject to photograph! She is an absolute natural in front of the camera. It's fun when you have a Senior who can just let loose and enjoy the experience! I have had a lot of guys so far this year for High School Senior photo shoots, and it's so true that the girls get into it much more than the guys! (most anyway)

Emily has big plans to become a pharmacist after graduating. Emily, I wish you the best in your endeavors and it was truly a pleasure to capture this fun time in your life!

Oh how I love this girl. I did this session for Ellie's 2nd bday a few weeks ago, but I have been so swamped with sessions and editing, that I am just now finally able to get it blogged. This girl has SO much life in her. She is just a ball of energy, free-spirit, and fun. If you ask her mom to tell you about Ellie, she describes her as "naughty" LOL It makes me laugh because I totally had a little one who was the same way. Definitely give you a "run for your money", but the fun outweighs the demands of parenting!

Ellie's big brother Andrew is such an old soul. He acts like he is about 30, and I am certain he is wiser than I am! He's an amazing big brother!

Meet Addyson! She definitely wins the award for tiniest baby that I have ever photographed. She weighs in at BARELY 5 lbs. I consider myself a natural with newborns and they never make me nervous, but this little peanut made me second guess myself. It wasn't that I was afraid I would hurt her, but she doesn't have an ounce of baby chub yet and I just felt like I would break her!

Her big sister Kayla was an absolute angel with her baby sister. I have never seen a 5 year old be so patient, kind and gentle with a newborn. She was completely into her! So cool to watch!

I met Addyson and family because I put a post out on Facebook that I was looking for a newborn baby girl to model the adorable headbands posted above. With young guys, it's always tough to know if they are going to be into getting photos done or if it's something they completely despise. I know Chad wasn't too excited about having his Senior pictures done... but... he was such a trooper and did such a great job! If you know me, you know I am sooo not a fan of being on that side of the camera, so I have sympathy for anyone who isn't completely comfortable, but Chad... I have no sympathy for you. You completely rocked this session and you would never know that you wrote on Facebook... "I hate having pictures taken"! Lol!

Anways... enjoy your last year of school! I still picture you and your brothers being about 5 and dressed up for Christmas parties! Time flies way too fast!

I had such an amazing time with Kelsey and Christian. I met Kelsey last year at a bridal show and really didn't even get the chance to talk to her, but... every photo I took of her, she looked amazing in. It's true, some people really have a way with the camera, and Kelsey is definitely one of those lucky ones. Put me on that side of the camera and it's a train wreck, so Kelsey... YOU are my hero. It's not easy when it's 90 degrees outside, sun is blazing, your 9 months pregnant and feeling it. Can I just say... ROCKSTAR? seriously internet... is there a better word, because it just doesn't get much better than this!
Baby Chase is a lucky little guy and has wonderful parents with a unique love for each other just waiting to meet him! I have to tell the story for memory's sake... I asked Kelsey and Christian how they met, it's obvious to me they have a really neat connection between the two of them just watching them it makes you all happy. It's a really comfortable protected by each other kind of thing... and if you know me... you know... I LOVE LOVE. Anyway, my point... they told me when I asked, that they met on an online dating site... and I giggled a little, but it's funny because lately, a lot of my new clients have met that way. The last wedding I did, was a e-harmony couple and Kelsey and Christian now... they were Plenty of Fish... so internet... don't knock the whole online dating thing, because it's two for two in my world and im lovin' it!
Alright baby Chase... feel free to make your appearance any day now, your mom and dad are ready! ;-)

My 13 year old has been at church camp all week and it's LATE at night and I am awake because I am so excited to go get her first thing in the morning that I can't sleep! ahhhhhh.... Thank you God for coffee in the morning! Who needs sleep anyway?

I was ordering a proof book for this family, and I came across these images, I had forgotten all about them in the busyness of the last few weeks of summer session... nothing says summer like....

WATERMELON!!!

I had visions of smiles and fun while they ate their watermelon.... BUT... they were SO hungry by the time we sat down to eat it... that they were serious about eating and even devoured it!!! Owen was hungry on his way to the session, but mom wouldn't stop to get him something to eat because she was worried about him getting something on his clothes!!! Little did she know, I had this little watermelon trick up my sleeve... and they got LOTS of watermelon on those clothes. I had to tease Kyle (their mom) for not feeding her kids... it seemed they had not eaten in about 3 months ;-) Kidding of course!

But this just brings up a point I should share with you anyway. I remember doing the same thing with my kids when we would go get photos taken over the last 13 years... don't MOVE because you might wrinkle or spill or get dirt on that picture outfit I would say to Kenedey.... and they look SO cute when they are all coiffed!

Well, that's the beauty of Photoshop (and im not afraid to use it)... especially with the little toddler sized kiddos. When their hungry... it's a lot more difficult to get happiness and smiles out of them when their bellies are growling... so... if you need to feed them after they are dressed and in the car or whatever the senerio, do it (note to parents though... stay away from things like teether biscuts or really messy things)! I really don't mind having to edit a spot or two off their clothes... its MUCH easier to do than forcing smiles that aren't natural. You will thank me for it... I PROMISE!

All Things Creative by Rachel - Wedding Coordinator Extraodinarre!

It was HOT, HUMID and I believe the heat index was roughly 115 degrees. You might remember how uncomfortable July 4, 2010 was in the lovely state of Michigan! Our blood is thick from the majority of cold we have here, so when it's 95 degree's it feels like... oh 150!

I have to be honest here... over the last year, I have kind of lost my excitement for wedding coordinators (stay with me)... I have just watched several of my brides hire them only to feel disappointed in the money they spent on what they thought they were getting and then didn't. I was always a BIG advocate of hiring one and felt that would let you, the wedding couple, enjoy and relish in all that your day would become. However, after a few let downs I felt like maybe I shouldn't be telling/pushing my couples implying that coordinators are a must have kind of thing.

BUT... as of today... my mind is changed!!! Remember how I said it felt like it was 150 degrees? How would you like to iron table linens for a reception venue OUTSIDE on a day like that?

NO LIE, that's EXACTLY what Rachel and Dan Cytacki of All Things Creative by Rachel did on July 4th. One thing that really stood out to me that I heard Rachel say to Maggie (the bride) at the rehearsal just as they were leaving for the evening... "Maggie, if you need anything tomorrow, please just let us know. Shoot us a text, call, yell. Whatever you need, we are here for you and we want you to just enjoy your day." Now that might sound pretty simple and like "well ya Kari, isn't that a coordinators job?"

Well, yes, I guess that it is, but the way it was said was entirely genuine and their follow through on the event was top notch. The details of this wedding were everywhere, and Ryan and Maggie the couple did a phenomenal job of preparing everything. Dan and Rachel jumped right in and helped make Ryan and Maggie's vision all fall into place with complete professionalism and grace. Well, maybe grace isn't the perfect word for Dan, at one point I walked from the house outside to the venue site, and Dan was walking away with a shovel and a dead bird who had apparently had a mishap with a window. LOL See what I mean... if it needs to be done, this is the team you want on your side, getting it accomplished... even if it's the bird.

So upcoming brides and grooms to be... if you need some assistance in the full planning process, coordination, floral, linens, a officiant (that's Dan), or even stationary... I promise you, this team will not let you down. I recommend them without one bit of reservation.

Dan and Rachel, it was an absolute pleasure to work the Baldwin/Cobbins wedding with you. I really feel like I was able to capture some great shots of the love those two share and I know a lot of the stress was lifted from them when you stepped in to pull it all together. What a GREAT day!

I grabbed a couple quick photos of the two of them because often times when you are behind the scenes it's tough to get a shot "on the job" ;-)

Weston turns ONE!!! Jackson, MI Photographer

This last year has been an absolute joy getting know Weston and watch him grow into... dare I say toddler?!
I remember his newborn session very well, this tiny sweet baby who was really fussy but sooo cuddly and sweet. I remember going back for a second shoot with him a few days later and he did beautifully. His mom later told me that she was super worked up/nervous about how things would go and maybe he was just feeling her emotions... plus all you momma's know all about those post pardom hormones! She of course had no need to be nervous, but I share that with all of you new momma's just so you are not alone if you are nervous for your newborn session... just let me take matters into my hands and you just sit back, relax, watch, let me play with your newborn, you just sit back and take in these moments... they are certainly fleeting. I promise I will hand him/her over when it's time for a feeding or mommy snuggle time. Onto Weston's 3 month session... it was Fall 2009... I was SHOCKED at how much he had grown and changed. I think back to that session a lot because I have considered cutting out one of the Bebe' Collection settings (I offer 4 with the program, but considered only offering 3)... but Weston changing SO much made me realize I really need to leave that option open. He had this beautiful toothless grin, bright blue eyes, and those cheeks!!! I could have kissed em' all day long!
His third sesison, he became the "Fedora hat baby". I have had so many clients tell me that the photo with the Fedora hat was such a cute picture. So yes, Weston IS the "Fedora baby"! I will likely always remember him that way! He really couldn't stand, but somehow we propped him up between his mom and the tree and he flashed those big blue eyes and again that smile... this time sportin' a few new teeth :-)

And now... we have made it to his first year in a FLASH. I got a little teary eyed editing his final Bebe' Collection session because he is so big and toddlerish, and it is just so bittersweet... where do all those days go?It was a wonderful final session. Just Weston, his mom, and I took him to the park and just got to focus on just him and I think it was a great bonding time for him and his mommy too. He has a big sister... who by the way is a DOLL in front of the camera... but sometimes it's just nice to give each one a little bit of time to shine on their own... and SHINE he did! So glad he has held onto those cheeks! This was from his cake session. It was the first time I have done a cake session outside... and I have to say, it was actually great! He could not have enjoyed himself more! He was so into it and would just look at us and smile every few seconds... perfect for some GREAT shots!!

I am so behind on blogging... I think the ease of uploading pictures to facebook for client sneak peeks makes me lazy to hurry to get things up here. So to all of you still sticking around... thank you! I am going to do my best to stay on top of posts here!

I had a wonderful time as usual with the Hunt family. I don't know how I get so lucky, but all of these kids I photograph are absolutely stunning. We did this session 2 different times, because little Miss Megan (who by the way just turned 2) was having an off day, she just wasn't her happy go lucky self, we scheduled around naptime, and she had fallen asleep on the way to her session. Not easy to wake up from a nap and be expected to give great smiles... huh Megs?

This is session 2 of 5 for Megan, she is in the Bebe' to Bus program so we will see her once a year now. I am so anxious to watch her grow and change... but no need to hurry Megan, you can stay 2 for a LONG time ;-)

This was Lauren's final session in the Bebe' Collection (she just finished up her series of 4) and now she will be moving up to Bebe' 2 Bus! For those of you who aren't familiar with Bebe' 2 Bus, it's the next program we offer that covers your child from 18 months - 5 years with sessions @ 18 months, 2, 3, 4, and 5 years of age. It's an amazing progression and I could not be more blessed with the opportunity to follow this family further on their journey of the first 5 years with Lauren.

Lauren did wonderful at her session and was much more interested this time... at 9 months, she was pretty apprehensive of me.... this time, we even got a few smiles that she did on PURPOSE... she's learning quickly how to work with the camera! Following right after her big sister Kara!

I absolutely adore this little guy! He has grown so much everytime I see him, he and his parents live in Hart, MI so I don't get to see him in between his sessions to see how much he has grown. I remember his first session where he was pretty fussy and just adjusting to life, now... that smile and easy going personality... he is an absolute joy! Oh, and the frog... Brady's dad, who just so happens to be a biology teacher (so we HAD to get a picture of the frog), found that during our session... it was the tiniest frog I have ever seen!

We had a great e-session last week at Sharon Mills park in Manchester! This was only the second time I have had the opportunity to photograph pets in a session and it was fun, but challenging! See that little guy on the right, yea he's a puppy... a GREAT DANE puppy. Probably the cutest thing puppy ever. And that's Rosco on the right, he is a gentle soul and just as sweet as can be... but truthfully, they were kind of like trying to photograph a couple of 2 year olds! BUSY and my agenda was not theirs lol. I have a new respect for pet photographers ;-)

Bebe' 2 Bus - CJ age 2! - Jackson, MI Children's Photographer

These Bebe' 2 Bus sessions always make me so proud of the commitment these families have made to consistently do photo sessions from ages 18 months to 5 years. This was CJ's 2nd session of his Bebe' 2 Bus Program, and he has DEFINITELY changed in the last few months. When we did his 18 month session last fall, he was walking, but not really into interacting with the camera. He just sort of did his own thing! This time... oh he interacted all right! He actually played and enjoyed himself and then... when he was done with me bugging him, he let me know in his own little way. He kinda errr REALLY yelled at me. He hasn't formed all the words yet, but I am pretty sure he told me, "get your camera out of my face so I can just play"!!! It was actually pretty comical and he had done an excellent job of letting me follow him around and try to chat with him! We got some wonderful stuff from his session and even included a few of his parents and his BEAUTIFUL sister Meris. Meris just graduated from Preschool and will be attending Kindergarten in the fall (tear). How do these kids grow so fast and where does the time go?!

Do you ever make an assumption of what someone will look like when you speak with them on the phone, and then when you meet them in person they don't look anything like you would expect?! Miss E's mom told me about her the few times we spoke on the phone before her session and for some reason I had a vision of her being a little blonde blue eyed little gal. These adorable (errr cool in your case Ryan ;-) guys are cousins... their grandma really wanted a session of her two favorite guys out at their beautiful property. The water in their pond was the most beautiful aqua blue and it just really made me feel inspired. Ryan who is just about 8, was AWESOME in front of the camera and actually seemed to enjoy himself. I was a bit nervous about his session because I had met him at a Mother Son Carnival event where I was the photographer, and he was a busy guy! I had my game face on though and Ryan completely surprised me! He was so so cool! I think he just really enjoys being outside. Thanks Ryan for totally rockin' your session! You were an absolute blast!

I will be doing "What to wear" blog posts here and there and will label them so you can find them easily! My famous saying though... "when in doubt... go all out". Photo time is the time to showcase what you LOVE seeing your favorite people in, so if you have been eyeing it... do it! With that said though... sometimes, less is more! If you kid has something you dispise but he/she wears ALL.THE.TIME. that might just be the perfect outfit to showcase exactly who your child is... most importantly... have fun with whatever it is ;-)

Bittersweet Milestones

"Miss Dah-leens" gift
I HAD to have a picture of his last day, but he gave me a big fat Nooooooo... If you know him, you know the sound and look of that "Nooooooo"!

It cracks me up that he still had "puffy eyes" this morning. Something he inherited from his grandpa Carpenter. It's like their upper eyelids swell while they sleep! lol

Another big milestone here at our house today. My little guy Carson has completed his first year of preschool. It wasn't too sad for mom, simply because I know he will go there again next year, but I couldn't help but think on my way to take him this morning how much he has grown... again... over the past 9 months.

This preschool year started off a little rough... I knew that it would be a huge adjustment for him, but he was excited to go. He cried for the first few months when I would drop him off, and then some things within the preschool changed... one teacher left and the director was left to pick up the pieces. "Miss Dah-leen" as Carson has called her until about a week ago when he decided he could say, "DARLENE"! I kinda hate that he's loosing the babyish sounds... but I know it's necessary... again bittersweet. Carson lets very few people into his little "circle of people" (seriously maybe 5 adults really "know" him), but Miss Dahleen was able to break through his walls and he just adores her. Once things got back to a new normal within the preschool, Carson began to absolutely thrive. He was excited to get there everyday, began talking with us about his friends there, and even started to sing songs to us that he was learning... UNHEARD of. Anything that draws attention to this kid, he wants nothing to do with, so you can imagine my surprise and sheer joy.

I have told her many times, but again... publically... "Miss Dah-leen" thank you so much for enabling the opportunity for my son to thrive in your preschool! We are so appreciative of everything and look forward to another great year next year @ Treasured Minds Montessori Preschool ;-)

Some kids (people for that matter) are just natural in front of the camera. When I say that, I mean this little gal can go from posing to just being absolutely her self in .01 seconds and that makes for some awesome shots! The first time I photographed Emma, I came back to edit the images and was BLOWN away with how beautifully she photographed. As usual... this session was NO different!

Six a wonderful age and an age that I really enjoy doing pictures for. They are still carefree and don't have that barrier of what to do/not to do in front of the camera. LOVE it!

If you are an upcoming bride of mine, it won't surprise you to hear how much I adore the work of a Jasmine Star. She's an amazing photographer.... sooooo talented and I often look to her for inspiration. Everytime I see her interviewed I am always in awe how she is able to put into words the thoughts that I try to get across to my wedding couples. See, she just has this "way" with people and personally (outside of the technical part) I think that's why she has the most amazing photos of her clients. Now... let's be upfront... I am NO Jasmine Star... the girl is FABULOUS, but she's someone I really admire the way she runs her business and look up to for her style of photography.

She recently did a interview with The Knot on their webiste. It's a recorded one, so you can watch it anytime here.

A couple of things that really impacted me from her interview... She talks about having a relationship with your photographer... this is so important to me. If you know me, I really want to and NEED to be involved with my clients whose wedding I am photographing, prior to the BIG DAY! Establishing that relationship is key for good photos. It's really tough to show up on your wedding day having never met you and try to capture who you each are and your relationship... having this established prior is ideal! Not always possible with distances sometimes... but you would be surprised how much emails and phone calls can accomplish when we work together. One of my famous lines is, "I don't want to be a drive by photographer, where I show up, shoot your photos, and leave... no part of my heart invested other that pics... INSTEAD, I really DO want to hear about what you are planning, why you chose what you did, how you feel about your fiance', and how excited you are". Truly guys.... that is just as important as picking up my camera.

The other thing I thought was really important... consider natural light... If you hire me as your photographer, you are likely hiring me partially on some of the natural light images you have seen. Planning your day (ceremony times/photo times) around the ambient light is sooo important. Those natural light photos you love, are almost always planned by where the light is at, at that particular time of the day. If you are a bride and we get a mostly cloudy day for your wedding (and im not talking rain, thankyouverymuch ;-) ) you know you will have a very happy photographer. I love the clouds when they cooperate with us! Now if I could just figure out how to let God allow me to be in control of the clouds on wedding days, we would be all set! ;-)

Baby belly! - Brooklyn, MI - Maternity Photographer

I have decided that maternity photos are really some of my favorites to do. I think it's a combination of the anticipation of a joyful event that is coming soon, a chance to meet excited families, and the bittersweet part of the whole thing. It's like you know it's almost over and you can NEVER go back to this moment to capture this precious time.

I fell in love with this sweet family almost instantly, but really got a chance to bond with them once we were able to concentrate on mom. As you can imagine, it's craziness with 2 siblings! You can only ask them so many times to touch mom's belly and be excited about that about 3 times and they are over it ;-) I can't wait though to watch them once baby Charlotte makes her appearance!

What is Custom Photography?

I am a professional child and family custom photographer.

If you are raising your eyebrows, or hear the word “huh?” bouncing around in your mind you are not alone.

Even if you are a custom photographer yourself, I challenge you to define Custom Photography so that any English speaking individual can understand it.

I laughed to myself when someone challenged me to do just that. Sure I can define what I do. (Self-assured giggle.) But when I defined it, my words were a whole sack of fancy terms that meant nothing to someone that has never come in contact with Custom Portraiture. My smile froze on my face.

So what IS Custom Photography?

Custom Photography is about a luxurious and fun experience that culminates with you getting artistic images that captured your children and family’s unique relationships, personalities, and moments.

It is all about the experience. From start to finish; it is all customized for you.

It is about creating something wonderful together with a professional that you will be able to display in your home and will have the ability to make you happy over and over again.

Um. I am still not sure I know what that means. (blush.)

Let me explain.

When I tell people what I do, I am often asked- “Oh, so you do professional pictures like JcPenny?”

No.

Custom Photography is very different than having your pictures taken at JcPenny or other local chains.

How so?

Let’s compare it to eating out in a pizza shop vs. a high end Italian restaurant. (Yeah, I love Italian food. :op)

When you go to a local pizza shop you get just that; pizza. Or whatever else you fancy.
You wait on line, make your order, pay the cashier, and sit down to eat. Done.

When you go to a high end restaurant it is much more than that.

It is an experience.

It is all about the ambiance, the tone and mood the decor sets. It is about feeling pampered and served, and it is about the tantalizing meal delivered to perfection.

So what does pizza have to do with photography?

JcPenny and other such photography businesses are about the pictures. You have a couple of minutes to set up your kids or family, hope the person behind the camera will be patient enough to wait until you get some smiles , you get to order your photo sheets and it is over. It is a simple process, like eating in a pizza shop.

Custom Photography is like the restaurant; it is about the whole experience. It is a luxurious experience that is enjoyable throughout the process.

Only with the restaurant you go out with a happy heart and a full belly, having immensely enjoyed the experience. But then it is over, and all you have is the memory to hold on to, and maybe a pound or two.
With Custom Photography you come out of the experience not only full and happy; but with priceless images of your family to hold on to forever.

Wow! It does sound like Custom Photography is a wonderful thing, but I can’t afford luxuries.

I understand.

Often we have only certain things that we will spend on.

For some it is vacations, for some it is cars, for some it is clothes, and for some it is our homes. For each of us it may be something else.

All wonderful things. Most of them fleeting.

Custom Photography results in artistic and timeless images that have the ability to make us happy again and again. Images that professionally capture way more than what your’ loved ones look like, but capture what they are like. Every time I look at Custom images created of my family my heart smiles. I never get tired of it. And neither will you.

It is also about capturing your family and loved ones as they are now. Now never comes back. What you have captured lasts forever.

Ok, I am convinced. I am just curious, are all Custom Photographers the same?

Are all restaurants the same?

Not at all.

There are all different kinds of food genres to satisfy all different kinds of tastes. There are so many Master Custom Photographers out there all with their own unique flavor.

Some are masters at creating the right experience; some are masters at creating the final product. Some are both. (wink,wink)

I venture to say some are not masters at all. (running to hide now.)

Finding a Custom Photographer that will give you the high quality experience and images you deserve can be hard. Tips and ways to go about it is for a whole other discussion.

I can't let it go without saying that this was an absolutely special session. This wonderful family is expecting their last and fourth child. I know it leaves you all wondering will they add more pink to their already girlie world, or will they be stunned with blue? I will be sure to let you know once they know! Mom says there is a 10% chance statistically that it will be a boy and if it's a girl that will be absolutely wonderful too because what better way to round things out?!

Roman was all about sucking on his hand for most of his session, but look at those sweet baby cheeks. He is such an easy going happy guy! Roman is part of our Bebe' Collection I am already so excited for his next session around 6 months when he is setting up and we get to include his 3 older brothers.

Ken and Lisa... hmm how would I describe this couple? I guess the one thing that comes to mind is how much fun they have together. They obviously have a very strong connection to each other and when Ken is near, you are sure to find a smile on Lisa's face!

I am having a horrible time staying on top of updating my blog. Ahhhh. stay with me though, good things are coming and I will get back with it! With the convenience of just quickly posting to Facebook and a busy Spring, it just seems time flies by and I am left kicking myself for not updating the blog.

Anyway... I wanted to be sure to get this sweet sweet girl up. Ava was only 7 days old here and had the sweetest spirit even as a newborn. She was super easy going and just let me move her any ol' way! I have lots of upcoming newborns and maternity sessions, CAN'T wait!

There is just something I love about watching sisters interact. I don't have 2 girls, so watching sisters be together is not something I get to watch all the time. My mom has 2 sisters and the bond between the 3 of them is definitely something all of us benefit from. These girls... have the SWEETEST connection already. Little Emma absolutely adores watching her big sister Courtney. If Courtney was near, there was a guaranteed smile!

7 months is a tough age to take outside when it's cold, but luckly we were able to go inside at Hidden Lake Gardens, but still have the outdoor feel. 350th POST!

Wow can't believe this is my 350th post. When I started this blog... I honestly thought there was no way I would be able to keep going at this... however... it's really become a part of who I am and a huge part of what my wonderful clients expect from me. I can honestly say... I STILL enjoy doing my blog... at times I feel a little uninspired, other times VERY inspired to get the words "onto paper" but all in all... I am SO happy I have this blog to look back on.

So.... the 350th post is PERFECT for this wonderful lady! As you know (if you read regularly), we took a trip last week down to Southwest Florida. (Naples, Bonita Area) While we were there, I had the opportunity to photograph Debra Koert of Colour U Salon in Bonita Springs. She was so much fun and so willing to give anything a try. I dispise being on that side of the camera, so anyone who is that confident in front of the camera and actually enjoys it... is a hero in my book ;-)

Debra recently turned 50!!! I think you will all agree she looks amazing! Thanks for being a total Rockstar Debra! It was truly my pleasure!

Carson came down with Strep Throat THE DAY we left... he was so pitiful :-( This was taken that first day... AFTER Motrin :-)

Our Florida time could not have been better. Lots of time with family and pure relaxation. I felt so rejuvenated when I returned.... lets just hope I can make that feeling last ;-)

I went to the beach and pier in Naples one night to practice beach shots for my destination wedding. It was a lot of fun and I would be a happy girl if I could shoot there EVERY.SINGLE.DAY.

I met up with Mike & Joanie for a quick session and I was thrilled with the way these turned out. I usually have the opportunity to get to know couples before their engagement session and this time I did not, it was a little nerve wracking for me. I always want couples to feel comfortable and then on the flip side for me, I want to be sure I capture what they want out of their session. I tried my hardest to talk Mike & Joanie into doing something fun, outdoorsy, or different. They stuck to their guns and really just wanted simplicity. It sounds like it's kinda the theme for the day and I must say... I give them "mad props" for keepin it simple. It was a nice change from always striving to keep it unique. You two are an adorable couple and it was so great to have a some time getting to know you!!! It's wont be long until your big day!

The post below is all about Cash too, but it was really for the celebration of his DAD's birthday. I got so many great pics of him that i wanted to finish up his Bebe' Collection with HIM! I met Cash just as he turned 3 months old. I have enjoyed getting to know his family and watching him grow into a happy, crazy, fun, and carefree little spirit. He has so much fun ahead of him and a family who is absolutely crazy about him, what a great way to start life!

Cash and family, you have been such a blessing to get to know this year. I appreciate the opportunity and I hope you treasure these milestones forever! Looking forward to the next and I am so excited to watch him continue to grow. Have fun little buddy!

I have been DYING to share this video for a few days. My sweet little Cash has just graduated from the Bebe' Collection (tear). But hes a big boy now and it sounds like he will be sticking around for the next step... bebe' 2 bus... WHICH I AM SO GLAD because I really can't see myself NOT watching him grow over and be part of his family over the next few years... I get so attached to all these Bebe' Collection babies, truly I do... I get emotional at the thought of not seeing them anymore... DORK.

Anyway... I had to wait until AFTER Brian (Cash's dadddy) got this video for his birthday, but I got the ok from Ali (Cash's mommy) tonight to go ahead and share!

Don't these slideshows make a wonderful gift? Those of you considering a session, consider this type of gift for mothers day or father's day! I know I would love to get one! Sweet Gabby

Gabby has transformed tremendously since her first session. Three months is leaps and bounds in infants and it sure shows here! For her first session she was a bit fussy and her and her family were JUST figuring out what formula would work for her. Her poor sleep deprived momma was at the end of ideas to help her best girl! BUT, the good news... Gabby is doing wonderful and is just the sweetest easy going girly girl! She still made me work for smiles, but she kept her grandparents close by and was always willing to show that beautiful grin for her Grandpa. We had him walk away and come back a few times and each time he returned we got the big smiles. I am already looking forward to her next session to see how she changes next time!

Gabby is among the very few girls I have in my Bebe' Collection! Come on girls, you are movin up in numbers, but we still have a LONG way to go! (In case you aren't aware, I have about 3 girls in my Bebe' Collection and about 14 boys!!!) I get so giddy for these girly sessions... just look at those flowers, tutus, necklaces and boas! WAY too fun!
